The day after the feast…

The day after the feast and I sit here feeling like I’m still full. I don’t even think I can eat breakfast. Although I will make room for a cup of coffee. I always have room for that. It’s crazy the feeling I have on the day after Thanksgiving. The excitement of the Christmas season is stirring around in my mind. I feel the decorating bug coming on heavily and know that by the end of the day my house will look like as my hubby would say “Christmas threw up all over the place”.  I’m not a shopper like most on black Friday. Going out into the wilds of shopper frenzy is not the least enticing to me. Now cyber Monday is my day to shop. I can sit in my living room and shop til my fingers cramp. No hassles, no crowds, no fighting over the last sale…

Why I’m Thankful…

Wow! What an awesome surprise! THE HUFFINGTON POST used a picture of me and my husband in a feature article on Reasons to be Thankful for Your Spouse. Check out #5—that’s us! Tom can make me laugh even when life feels completely out of control and chaotic. And after 25 years, his sense of humor is a big part of why we’re still married. I’m so jazzed this happened right now at Thanksgiving. Particularly because Tom was accidentally left off the acknowledgements page in HARD TARGET when it released earlier this month. How cool that now you all get to see why I love my guy and how he holds my world together. 41 reasons to be thankful for your spouse — huffpostwedding (@HuffPostWedding) November 27, 2013

Giving Many Thanks

As I sit here typing this post I’m thankful for my family, friends, and adoring fans that have made my writing dreams a reality. I’m greatful for the warm fire crackling, the cinnamon rolls on my plate and the delicious coffee in my cup. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is coming on and I sit here waiting as if I were a child for all the floats and then the big guy himself Santa. I’ve had so much to be thankful for this year. I’ve been honored to be included three times in magazines, my sales have been steady thanks to my faithful fans, I’ve been for the most part healthy, I made it through my son’s football season without losing my mind, and most of all thankful for my wonderful family and friends. I’ve been blessed with an adoring husband, wonderful son and even though they’re not my…

Writing Goals – How do you manage them?

Writing Goals! This can be a hard to figure out. Of course you don’t have to set a goal to be a writer, but it helps to make sure you meet deadlines. For me I try to be reasonable, well most of the time. It helps to manage your time with other tasks, this usually gives you that extra window of writing time. If you wash your dishes as you cook dinner, then after dinner you have that time to write. If you write as you wait for clothes to wash and dry then that gives you another segment of time. At work I try to set a few minutes here and there to fit in a couple of words. That also helps to relieve the stress of the work day. I’ve talked to many writers about their goals. Some have daily goals, weekly goals and monthly goals. I guess…

Brooke Thalberg’s Tempting Pumpkin Pie

Happy Holidays! And it wouldn’t be a holiday without food, lots of it. Today I dive into my Christmas cookie baking, but I thought I’d tell you about pumpkin pie, which plays a part in Brooke Thalberg’s exploits in my January Valentine Valley book, TRUE LOVE AT SILVER CREEK RANCH. Now Brooke is powerfully attracted to returning Marine Adam Desantis, and is worried he’s alone for the holidays. She brings a pumpkin pie out to the bunkhouse…and there might be a can of whipped cream involved. 😉 Here’s my favorite pumpkin pie recipe! Libby’s Famous Pumpkin Pie Ingredients: 2 unbaked 9-inch deep dish pie shells 4 eggs 1 can, 29 oz, solid pack pumpkin 1 ½ cups sugar 1 tsp. salt 2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tsp. ground ginger ½ tsp. ground cloves 2 cans (12 fluid oz each) evaporated milk Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Beat eggs lightly in…

Giving Thanks – A steersman for a stormy day

I often sit at my computer and wait for inspiration. Tonight, I didn’t have to wait too long as my husband (in Korea) sent me an email. He generously cropped my pictures from theMedal of Honorbook signing on October 6 at the Hale Koa – House of the Warrior. I add the words fromCathy Maxwell’sguest post on Fox News (at this link). Thank you for stepping forward when others step back. Thank you for placing yourself between us and danger. Thank you for delaying plans for college, marriage, and other opportunities and choosing to serve. Thank you for braving the unspeakable horrors of war. Thank you for sacrificing time with your families and missing those significant milestones the rest of us take for granted. Thank you to your spouses who find themselves living nomadic lives, often far away from the support of loved ones. Thank you to your children who…
