ARC Review: The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean

Anything Sarah MacLean writes I want to read. When I saw that she had a new book in her new series “The Rogue Not Taken” I jumped up in excitement. McLean is such a great writer! I loved her previous series “The Rules of Scoundrels and “Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover” was one of my favorite reads in this past year. In true MacLean fashion she writes about a peculiar heroine who wants to play by her own rules and not those of society. Lady Sophie Talbot is not of blue-blood. Her father won a title in a game of cards and with his hard work in the coal mines, he amassed wealth. The aristocracy looks down on her and her family because of these two traits but also because her and her sisters have even received a quirky name. Sophie is the youngest of the sisters and…

The Flame & the Flower Reread!

Happy 75th Anniversary, Avon! 2016 marks the 75th anniversary of our beloved Avon Books and all year long, Avon will be celebrating with rereads of the romances that built a genre, beginning with the original old school romance novel, Kathleen Woodiwiss’s The Flame & the Flower. I read Heather & Brandon’s story when I was *way* too young to be reading romance novels, and I can remember being swept away by the innocent girl on the run from her horrid family, the dark, devastating ship’s captain who captures her, and their bananas love story, which birthed some of romance’s most beloved plotlines — kidnapping, secret babies, enemies-to-lovers, and more. Kathleen Woodiwiss didn’t hesitate to write fearless, and that fearlessness is the reason why we have such a vibrant, vast romance genre today. Also, please note that this is the book that launched a thousand angry-hero-cheek-muscle twitches (heart-eyes forever, you guys)!…

Review: The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean

The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLeanSeries: Scandal & Scoundrel, #1Historical RomanceDecember 29, 2015Avon Reviewed by Tori Favorite Quote: “My only regret is that the pool was not deeper. And filled with sharks.” Lovers of historical romance, trashy tabloids, road trips, and opposite attraction are sure to enjoy Sarah MacLean’s newest adventure that will leave you chuckling and at times outright laughing as you ride along on the outrageous journey of a young lady hellbent on escaping London and the irrepressible rake she finds herself unfortunately entangled with. Lady Sophie Talbot’s father came into his title through monetary means and she has resigned herself to society’s edict that she and her sisters, dubbed the Scandalous S’s, will never be fully accepted. They are considered upstarts; interlopers. Though not at all as scandalous as her attention seeking older sisters, Sophie has her own moment of infamy when she catches her older sister’s…

Review: The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean

After spending the day reading the newest release by Sarah MacLean, which happens to be the first book in her Scandal and Scoundrel series, I can honestly say I am an emotional mess. You know that heavy, achy feeling you get in your chest when you get to ‘that’ scene in every romance book? That terribly emotional scene where a truth comes out, or a huge misunderstanding tears the H/h apart until they can find their way back together or even Amazon * Barnes & Noble * KOBO * iTunes when a character does something awful and you just hurt and hurt and hurt for the recipient of their awfulness? Yeah, that was me for most of this book. I was so emotionally invested that I could not put it down even when I wanted to. Let me back up and explain. The heroine of this story is Sophie Talbot, one of the infamous…
